How the four types of work differ

Expert networks hire you for your domain knowledge — medicine, law, finance, engineering, languages. Pay is the

highest of the four ($25–$150+/hr is common), assessments are the toughest, and work arrives in project waves.

Annotation and data platforms pay per task or per hour to label images, audio, video and text. Entry is easier,

rates are lower, and volume is steady.

Research studies and interviews are short, one-off engagements — an hour of your expertise for a fixed fee.

Micro-task platforms offer small, self-serve tasks you can do in spare minutes. Lowest pay, fastest to start.

Applying to 70 platforms at once is the fastest way to burn out and fail assessments. A better approach:

1.Pick three that match your expertise. A nurse should start with medical-domain networks; a developer with

code-evaluation platforms; a bilingual speaker with language and localisation work.

2.Do one assessment properly per day rather than five badly. Most platforms let you retry only after 90 days.

3.Keep a spreadsheet of application dates, assessment results, hourly rates and payment methods.

4.Expect quiet periods. Work is project-based, so being active on three or four platforms smooths out the gaps.

5.Revisit rejections after 90 days. Networks reopen roles constantly as new client projects land.

Most platforms pay through PayPal, Payoneer, direct bank transfer, or Stripe-issued payouts; a handful pay in

cryptocurrency. Payment frequency ranges from daily to monthly, and nearly all platforms treat you as an independent

contractor — so set aside your own taxes.
